Years 3 to 6

A Natural Next Step

Year 3 is a natural transition point for all students at Fahan. This period is marked by growth, curiosity and increasing independence, preparing students for the opportunities and challenges ahead.

At Fahan, learning in these years is engaging, meaningful and nurtured within a safe, positive and flexible environment. All students are excited to take part in new programs designed especially for Junior School students - including camps, Outdoor Education experiences and House carnivals.

Year 3 is the perfect time to step into a community where every girl is seen, heard and known - and where she can grow into the next stage of her learning journey with confidence.

Starting Strong in Year 3

Strong Foundations in Literacy and Numeracy

Year 3 is a pivotal stage in your daughter's education. It's when the essential building blocks of literacy and numeracy are consolidated and extended, strengthening her core knowledge and confidence. In English, students move from learning to read to reading to learn, applying these skills across all learning areas.

Our intentionally small class sizes allow teachers to provide personalised support, helping each girl gain confidence and close any learning gaps so she feels secure, capable and ready.

Specialist Teaching and Enriched Learning

From Year 3, students learn from specialist teachers in Art, Music, Sport, Outdoor Education and Digital Technologies. These aren't just weekly lessons - they are opportunities to learn from passionate educators who know each girl well, recognise her strengths and inspire her to extend herself.

Year 3 also marks the beginning of structured outdoor experiences, including their first overnight camp - building resilience, teamwork and a love of the outdoors.

Building Connections and Belonging

Joining Fahan in Year 3 allows girls to form strong, lasting friendships early. It also welcomes families into our vibrant and connected community through events hosted by the Parents and Friends' Association, classroom experiences and our many whole-School celebrations.

A Year 3 start provides continuity through to Year 12 - deep bonds with peers, teachers and the School community that give each girl a sense of belonging that lasts a lifetime.

The Journey Continues: Years 4 to 6

From Year 3 onwards, each year builds purposefully on the last. Girls take on greater challenges, deeper learning and new responsibilities - so that by the end of Year 6, they step into Senior School with confidence, capability and a strong sense of who they are.

Growing Every Year

Camps and Outdoor Education experiences grow progressively more adventurous each year, building resilience, teamwork and independence step by step. In the classroom, learning deepens as girls take on more complex ideas and greater ownership of their work.

House carnivals, performances, sport and community events give every girl the chance to contribute, be celebrated and discover new strengths along the way.

Joining Fahan in Year 5

Many families choose Year 5 as the time to begin their daughter's Fahan journey. We introduce an additional class in Year 5, ensuring class sizes remain carefully managed while new girls are quickly welcomed into friendships and School life.

With two years to settle, grow and belong before Year 7, a Year 5 start sets the stage for a seamless journey into Senior School.

Ready for Senior School

In Years 5 and 6, girls are immersed in specialised lessons in Art, Digital Technology, Drama, Music and Library, as well as French and Japanese language learning every week. The Outdoor Education program prepares them for the more challenging camps of Year 7 and beyond.

Because Fahan is one school on one campus, girls finish Year 6 already knowing their teachers, their campus and each other - making the step into Senior School a natural one.
