Kindergarten

A Strong Start

Starting school is an exciting milestone. At Fahan, our Kindergarten provides a nurturing environment where girls are encouraged to explore, create and discover.

Through meaningful learning experiences, caring relationships and intentionally small classes, every child is encouraged to ask questions, make discoveries and experience the joy of learning. Every day brings opportunities to create, play and grow, helping each child become a capable, independent learner.

The Fahan Kindergarten Difference

Every Child is Known

Our intentionally small classes mean teachers truly know every child as an individual. They understand her strengths, interests and learning style, creating a personalised learning experience where she feels valued, supported and encouraged.

Strong partnerships with families help every child feel safe, settled and ready to learn.

Outdoor Learning Every Week

Our Outdoor Classroom is an extension of everyday learning. Children regularly explore our beautiful campus and beyond through nature walks, investigations and excursions that encourage curiosity, resilience and problem solving.

Whether discovering local environments, observing seasonal change or learning outdoors with friends, these experiences foster independence and a lifelong connection with the natural world.

A Creative Beginning

Creativity is woven throughout Kindergarten. Working with our specialist Art teacher, children experiment with a wide range of materials and techniques while expressing their ideas through drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics and collaborative projects.

Every day, children are inspired to imagine, create and make meaning through hands-on learning.

The Journey Continues: Prep to Year 2

Kindergarten is just the beginning. Across Prep, Year 1 and Year 2, the curiosity, confidence and independence nurtured in Kindergarten grow into strong foundations for life-long learning - with the same small classes, caring teachers and rich experiences every step of the way.

Learning Together

Each week, Kindergarten, Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students come together for shared learning experiences through Learning on Country, Nature Create, Sustainability and Cooking.

Younger students benefit from learning alongside older peers, while older students develop leadership, empathy and a genuine sense of responsibility. These shared experiences foster connection, belonging and friendships that often continue throughout their years at Fahan.

Growing Readers, Writers and Mathematicians

Across Prep, Year 1 and Year 2, girls build strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics through structured, evidence-based teaching. Skills are introduced step by step, practised daily and celebrated often.

Because classes are intentionally small, teachers know exactly where each girl is in her learning - providing extra support or extension the moment it's needed, so every child moves forward with confidence.

Building Independence

Across the early years, girls take on growing responsibility - for their belongings, their learning and their friendships. Specialist lessons in Visual Arts, Music, Physical Education and Library continue to broaden each girl's week, while classroom routines nurture organisation, persistence and pride in their work.

By the end of Year 2, girls step into Year 3 with the curiosity and confidence to embrace everything the Junior School offers.

One Connected Community

From their very first day, our youngest students become part of the wider Fahan Community.

As a Kindergarten to Year 12 school on one campus, relationships grow naturally across year levels. Through our Big Sister, Little Sister program and everyday interactions, younger students develop a strong sense of belonging while older students become positive role models.

Growing up in one connected community provides continuity, familiarity and support as girls move through each stage of their education.

Designed for Girls

At Fahan, every aspect of school life is designed with girls in mind. From Kindergarten onwards, girls are encouraged to ask questions, embrace challenges and find their voice in an environment where they are known, supported and valued.

Research has shown that girls in all-girls schools often report stronger connections with their teachers and peers, greater confidence and a stronger sense of belonging. At Fahan, these foundations are nurtured from each girl's very first day, creating an environment where girls feel confident to learn, contribute and grow.
