Sophie has combined her passion for languages and intercultural understanding with her desire to be in the classroom teaching French and Humanities. She has a cultural curiosity which she seeks to instil within her students.

In 2011, Sophie studied Urban Sociology and Social Inequality at the Université de Strasbourg, in France. After living in France for a year and travelling around Europe, Sophie returned to Hobart to complete her Bachelor of Arts with French and Sociology majors and undertake a Master of Teaching through UTas. Her desire to travel and live in another country took her back to France in 2013, where she worked as an assistant English teacher for 12 months in two high schools in the north of France. From this experience, she developed an appreciation for teaching languages and fostering a love of learning in young people.

Sophie graduated from Master of Teaching in 2016 and began teaching Humanities at the Friends’ School. Following this, Sophie taught at Elizabeth College for 7 years, teaching French and a range of Humanities subjects. Sophie sees the value in connecting with the French community in Hobart and has been a committee member of the Alliance Française de Hobart and a Committee member for the MLTAT conference in 2021. In her spare time, Sophie enjoys travelling, eating out, yoga and spending quality time with family and friends.
