Dr Brooke Mason (Class of 2012) is a medical practitioner, competitive surfer and passionate advocate for mental health and gender equality. During her medical studies, Brooke co-founded Fresh Faced Friday, a wellbeing campaign encouraging body positivity and self-acceptance. Since then, she has combined her passions for medicine and surfing through volunteer work in Fiji and Central America, providing healthcare and mentoring young people in coastal communities. Her lived experience with trauma has shaped a deeply empathetic and resilient approach to life and leadership. In 2024, Brooke was nominated as Tasmania’s Young Australian of the Year in recognition of her advocacy and community impact, including her stand for gender equity in sport.

Inspired by the words of Albus Dumbledore: “Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light,” Brooke will deliver a talk titled Building resilience and embracing discomfort – the importance of adversity in your growth as a wiser and kinder human being.
