With only five weeks left until Sunday 14 October, the countdown has begun to the Fahan Fair, the P&F’s major fundraiser for 2012.
“When you think about it, that’s only three weeks once we come back from school holidays,” said Gillian Vosper, who has been involved in Fahan Fairs for the last ten years.
“I can guarantee, this one is going to be the biggest and the best we’ve ever had. We’ve got more entertainment than ever before including local brothers, Ziah (15), Taylor (12) and Jes Lewincamp (11), from The Pyjama Brothers,” said Gillian.
You might have seen the boys performing down at Salamanca on Saturdays or perhaps at one of the local music festivals.

The P&F have also secured Soul Fish, who played at the Sunset Under the Sails event at the start of the year.
Also featuring on the big stage will be a fashion parade by Forget Me Not.
“We also have more stalls than ever before. Everything from food and drinks to activities, crafts and competitions,” said Gillian.
In fact there will be nine food and drink stalls with such gourmet delights as Devonshire teas and coffees, wine and beer, a spit roast and gourmet barbeque, sausages, burgers, fish and chips, sushi, nachos, hot dogs, ice cream, fairy floss and snow cones.
“That’s not even counting the cake and biscuit stalls in our craft section, or our range of fresh produce that will be available for sale,” said Gillian. “I bet your taste buds are already salivating at the thought.”
The 2012 Fair will also feature a huge range of activities to keep both adults and children entertained for the whole four hours.
There is face painting for the kids or the young at heart, a stall where little girls can become fairies, and a manicurist doing nail art.
Perhaps you’re more interested in bouncing all those calories away on the jumping castle or trying your hand on the dunking machine (if you want to find out who gets dunked you’ll have to come along and find out).
For all those who didn’t make The X Factor cut or turn the red chair on The Voice, come along to get some extra practice at the karaoke booth and celebrate your brush with fame with some publicity shots in the photo booth.
“We also have a ‘boot load’ of competitions including a chocolate wheel, a gumboot toss, a derby, and lucky dips, as well as a huge selection of gifts and crafts,” said Gillian.
It doesn’t matter whether you are coming for a fun filled day with the family or for some early Christmas shopping, The Fahan Fair has something for everyone, from the very youngest in the family to the very oldest.
Gates open from 11am to 3pm.
“Obviously with the car park and oval taken over by the Fair, parking at the School will not be available. We are trying to arrange a regular shuttle bus service from the Lower Sandy Bay shops,” said Gillian.
With so little time left until The Fair, what one thing does Gillian still need?
“Apart from putting my feet up with a glass of wine when it’s all over, I still really need volunteers. As the saying goes, ‘many hands make light work.’ If you are able to help out, even for half an hour on the day, please contact me by email or phone.”
Gillian needs people to help set up before and pack up after the fair, man the stalls on the day and actively promote the fair.
“It would be great if we could get people who live on main roads to put up signs in their front yard. We could also do with some people to distribute flyers into letterboxes and under car windscreens, or if you’re not up for that, how about putting a poster in your workplace.”
“We are also still looking to borrow pop-up tents or gazebos for use on the day as well as bunting to promote a fun atmosphere. If you can help out with either of these, please let me know.”
Donations are still needed for the following items: beanie kids, soft toys, books, DVDs, CDs, wine, prizes for the chocolate wheel, cakes, biscuits, lollies, toffee apples, craft items, pre-loved clothing, items or gold coin donations for the Lucky Dip, plants and fresh produce.
