Over 100 people attended this year’s annual Parents and Friends Association Sunset Under the Sails evening and everyone at the casual get together had a wonderful time, thanks to the hard work of the P & F and in particular, Birgitta Browning.
Principal, Tony Freeman, welcomed new staff and introduced all staff members to parents and thanked the P & F for their vital role in ensuring that Fahan has an active and engaged community for the benefit of the current students of the School.
“The Parents and Friends Association is an important part of any School and although our P & F is only a small group of people, the work that they put in to events and fundraising for the benefit of Fahan is outstanding,” Mr Freeman said.
“I would encourage all of our parents to become involved with the P & F if they are able to, as it is a truly integral part of our School’s community and the way that it enriches the school lives of our students is invaluable.
Mr Freeman said it was also pleasing to see so many of our new, and not so new, parents at the event and that he looked forward to meeting parents and students in this informal environment.
Four of the 2011 Year 12 Student Leaders, Angela Marsland, Aimee Baker-Turner, Grace Richardson and Elli Hopkins also gave their time to serve the refreshments.
Guests were spoilt for choice with delicious nibbles such as sushi, samosas, salmon blinis and mini dim sims provided for the adults, while children and adults alike enjoyed the pizza.
Parents and Friends Association representative, Fahan mum and key organizer of the event, Birgitta Browning, said that this year there was a strong turn out for the annual event.
“The P & F host Sunset Under the Sails each year in order to welcome families to the School community and to celebrate the beginning of the School year in a relaxed and casual setting,” Mrs Browning said.
“The event is also a wonderful opportunity for new parents to see what the P & F does for the School and to encourage members to join the association.
“We are thrilled to see a couple of new faces in the association this year and we are hoping to give generously to the School in 2011.”
If you were unable to attend Sunset Under the Sails this year, or you are a new parent commencing in 2012, we strongly encourage you to come along to the 2012 Sunset Under the Sails and meet other parents and the staff of the School at this informal welcome to the Fahan community.
